Super Eagles Players Miss Out Of CAF’s Best Group Stage Team

No Super Eagles player made it to the CAF’s team of the group stage at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Confederation of African Football named its best XI of the competition for the first round, which was dominated by Morocco and Senegal.

There was no place for any Super Eagles player in the list.

CAF made the announcement on their X account on Thursday night after the end of the first round of the competition on Wednesday.

Morocco’s quartet of Achraf Hakimi, Nayef Aguerd, Sofyan Amrabat and Azzedine Ounahi made the list.

The Atlas Lions won two matches and drew one to top Group F with seven points.

Senegal produced three players with the likes of Khalidou Koulibaly, Ismaila Sarr and Lamine Camara rewarded for their impressive performances in the group stage.

Equatorial Guinea’s duo of Emilio Nsue and goalkeper Jesus Owono were also included after guiding the team to an historic first place finish in Group A.

Emilio Nsue is currently the top scorer of the competition with five goals.

Arthur Masuaku of DR Congo and Gelson Dala of Angola completed the list.

The second round starts on Saturday with Angola taking on Namibia, while Nigeria will battle it out with old time foes, Cameroon.
