Technological Innovations Top 2023 Igbo Day Celebration

The forthcoming Igbo Day celebration will feature the display of indigenous innovations of Igbo sons and daughters, THE WHISTLER reports.

The event, scheduled for September 28 and 29 at Okpara Square, Enugu, will also showcase indigenous Igbo delicacies, cultures, and local crafts.

Dr Alex Chiedozie Ogbonnia, the national publicity secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, told our correspondent om Saturday in Enugu that the event will be chaired by oil mogul Engr Arthur Eze.

The event, with the theme, ‘Igbo Kunie’, will also feature a keynote lecture to be delivered by the Catholic bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Bishop Godfrey Onah, Ogbonnia stated, adding that Gov Peter Mba of Enugu State will be the chief host while governors of Abia, Dr Alex Otti; Anambra, Professor Charles Soludo; Imo, Chief Hope Uzodinma, and Ebonyi, Mr Francis Nwifuru, are the co-hosts.

Among the highlights of the celebration, according to Ohanaeze, are post-humous awards to some prominent Ndi Igbo as well as persons that impacted positively on the Igbo race.

Some of them, according to Ogbonnia, are Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nigeria’s First President; Maj Gen Johnson Aguiyi Ironsi, first Nigerian military Head of State; Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu; Dr Alex Ekwueme, former Vice President of Nigeria; Col Adekunle Fajuyi, former military governor of the Western Region; Chief M.I. Okpara, former Premier of the Eastern Region; Professor Chinua Achebe, Alhaji Ado Bayero, and Mrs Mariam Babangida.
