The Wisdom Of Ada(MU) Ada(MU)

Our highly innovative Education Minister, Adamu Adamu, has finally come up with a master plan to move the country’s education system forward. The Minister wants to resuscitate the defunct Northern Nigeria Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies, and elevate it to a federal parastatal. For this, he has already placed before the federal executive council, a memo that is now awaiting approval.

Apparently, the honourable Minister, in his great wisdom, believes that this line of action is what Nigeria’s education system needs at this time to bounce back from all of the setbacks of past years. Hopefully with this policy, there’ll be no more mass failures in WAEC exams, and those strikes by ASUU, ASUP, and NASU that usually cripple our tertiary institutions will become things of the past. Standards will also automatically improve in all aspects of our education system once this policy kicks in.

Before you accuse our indefatigable minister of partiality, just give him some time. No doubt, he will soon see the need to establish federal religious education boards for Christian worshippers, Sango worshippers, Osun worshippers, Amadioha worshippers, Ogun worshippers, Ani worshippers, the worshippers of Yemoja, etc etc. We know that the minister will not do it for Muslims alone, because we are certain that President Buhari’s government will never pursue an Islamic agenda. Soon enough they’ll remember all other religions and even the ones that will exist in the future. All will have their own federal boards to promote the education of their adherents. And if a single religious education board will yield the benefits listed above, imagine what will happen when all the religions each have their own federal education boards. Nigeria will just become a paradise overnight.

For the benefit of those who may not know this, the Northern Nigeria Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies was first established in 1959 by the then government of Sir Ahmadu Bello, Premier of the Northern Region. The Board apparently fizzled out in 1967 after General Yakubu Gowon split the Northern Region into six different states. Don’t annoy the honourable minister by telling him that such matters as were covered by this board nearly 60 years ago are still best left to the federating units to handle as they deem fit.

Obviously, we should not exercise such audacity as to dare to tell the President Buhari and his education minister that instead of moving to create new, clearly worthless parastatals, they should actually be making spirited efforts to reduce the number of existing parastatals, in line with a very urgent need to reduce the cost of governance. Nor should we summon the effrontery to suggest to the President and his ministers that instead of wasting valuable time concocting brainless schemes that will consume scarce resources and add absolutely no value to the wellbeing of #Nigeria and her citizens, they should focus more on finding solutions to the pressing problems that are facing the country today.

Our education minister is such a smart guy. He knows all the problems and has now proffered the right solution. To appreciate the deep wisdom of our extremely hard working minister, just take out the last two letters of each of the minister’s reduplicated names and pronounce them together, but please don’t tell anyone that it was me who asked you to do this.
