Traffic Court Convicts 3 Offenders For Offering Bribes To FRSC Operatives In Anambra

A traffic mobile court in Onitsha, Anambra State, Tuesday, convicted three traffic offenders who attempted to bribe some officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State command. Also convicted were forty-seven others while three others were discharged for lack of evidence. Their offences were mainly on failures to install speed limit devices and driver’s licence violations.

As a result, the sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra Sector Command, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi, has issued a strong warning to motorists, especially commercial vehicle operators, to desist from inducing FRSC operatives in their bid to evade arrest. He said they should endeavour to process valid national drivers’ licences, install speed limit devices on their vehicles and abide by all traffic regulations.

In another development, the state command of the FRSC has identified some spots it described as death traps where crashes frequently occurred in Anambra. Sector Commander CC Andrew Kumapayi said the corps had also notified the state government on those spots for prompt action.

According to him, “There is a black spot between Nteje and Odumodu junction along Enugu-Onitsha express road where accidents always occur. You have black spots too on Onitsha-Owerri road. There are some spots that are very bad within the township of Nnewi. They are death traps within for crashes to occur.”

He further stated that the corps would partner the Nigerian Medical Association to offer free medical services to motorists on critical health issues, like eye tests, blood sugar level, and blood pressure, adding that the corps ‘now has station officers in the local government areas who collaborate with the police and other sister agencies to give prompt accident reports as well as provide credible data for planning purposes’.

He added that the corps was partnering communities, as first responders to crashes, to enlighten them on the principles of first aid services to accident victims.
