Trump Picks 41-Year-Old Billionaire Astronaut As NASA Chief
U.S President-elect, Donald J. Trump, on Wednesday, nominated Jared Isaacman, billionaire entrepreneur and private astronaut, as the next administrator of NASA.
Isaacman, 41, is the founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments, a payment processing company, and has played a prominent role in private space exploration.
He gained international recognition in 2021 as the leader of Inspiration4, the first all-civilian mission to orbit Earth, facilitated by SpaceX.
In 2023, Isaacman continued his journey with the Polaris Dawn mission, another SpaceX collaboration, aiming to test technologies for future Mars exploration. The mission marked the first spacewalk by private astronauts.
He plans to lead two more Polaris missions, including the maiden crewed flight of SpaceX’s Starship rocket.
Isaacman’s nomination may raise questions about potential conflicts of interest due to his ties to Elon Musk, a Trump advisor and co-chair of a government efficiency commission.

“I am delighted to nominate Jared Isaacman, an accomplished business leader, philanthropist, pilot, and astronaut, as Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA),” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Jared will drive NASA’s mission of discovery and inspiration, paving the way for groundbreaking achievements in Space science, technology, and exploration,” he added.
If confirmed, Isaacman will replace Bill Nelson, a former Democratic senator from Florida and a space shuttle astronaut, as NASA administrator.
