U.S. Based Nigerian Teenager Donates Pocket Money, Cloths To School For The Blind

16-year-old Michelle Ayomide Soneye, who lives in the United States of America with her parents, stunned the philanthropy world when she donated savings from her school pocket money and newly bought cloths to students of the Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Sighted Children, Surulere, Lagos.

Soneye, who was in Nigeria with her parents for the Christmas holidays, had ‘sneaked’ to the school without the knowledge of her parents to make the donation.

A member of the family who narrated the charity story to THE WHISTLER said Soneye donated “clothes she bought and collected from several clothes drive in addition to the savings from occasional gifts and pocket money and quietly handed over the items to the school.”

Brigid Paschal, the Reverend Sister who received the donation on behalf of the school expressed pleasant surprise at the ‘extraordinary’ gesture of the teenager. 

“We have over 140 students here all blind and these gifts from Michelle will go a long way

” I am really touched by this gesture and pray for God’s blessings for her,

“Pacelli school is privately run and we depend on donations like these to continue to help the students.’’

After her donation, she explained to her audience what stirred her philanthropic gesture.

“Why I started this clothes donation is because I saw many children who were without clothes and other necessities, the first time I came to Nigeria about three years ago.

“ It was uppermost in my mind to help out and do something to make a child in need smile and feel special.

“I am so thankful to God for the opportunity to go to Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Sighted Children to make my contribution,” said Soneye who currently attends Elizabeth Seton High School in the State of Maryland in United States of America
