UEFA: RB Leipzig Beats Atletico Madrid To Book Semi-final Spot

RB Leipzig secured their first ever Semi-final spot for the UEFA Champions League with a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid on Thursday night at Estádio José Alvalade stadium in Lisbon Portugal.

The German Bundesliga side, which was formed 11 years ago, were without their star striker, Timo Werner, who switched club with north London side Chelsea after the German league ended.

His absence was not felt as Leipzig beat favourite Atletico who boasts stronger squad on paper, and the win was a milestone archivement for the lads as they secured their first ever  semi-final spot for the club.

Dani Olmo opened scores for Leipzig five minutes into the second half and João Félix cancelled for the Atleti side after he was fouled in the penalty area and subsequently converted it.

American born midfielder, Tyler Adams, became the club’s hero as he struck dead in the game at the 88th minute to make it 2-1 for Leipzig.

Leipzig will face PSG on Tuesday for a spot at the finals.
