UI Vows To Reinforce Security On Campus

Following the attack on a female hostel at the University of Ibadan yesterday by gunmen, the Chairman, Council Committee on Security, Prof Ademola Aremu has assured that the police are working hard to track the invaders.

He also disclosed that the university is reviewing its security machinery in order to forestall future attacks.

Aremu who visited the hostel in company of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Idowu Olayinka noted that the invaders have shown pattern in their operation by attacking female students during holidays when halls are sparsely populated.

Recall that on July 11, suspected robbers had attacked the Obafemi Awolowo female hostel and in the early hours of yesterday, August 11 had again invaded the Abdulsalam Abubakar hall of the university.

According to reports, during the July 11 attack, the robbers had injured some female students.

The assailants reportedly tied up the security man on duty, while two male students who tried to obstruct them received machete cuts.

They were however treated at the university health centre.

Phones and other valuables were carted way by the thieves.
