US Poll: Pompeo, Democrats Disagree Over Covid-19 Losses, Economy

  • Republicans Strategise At Convention Ahead of Nov. 3

At the ongoing Republican National Convention, United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, listed the foreign affairs scorecard of President Donald Trump, including the administration’s policy on China and the Covid-19 pandemic, accusing China of deliberately unleashing the virus on the rest of the world.

He said that Trump would see to it that China paid for what it had done to the world, in America.

“The president has held China accountable for covering up the China virus and allowing it to spread death and economic destruction in America and around the world.

“And he will not rest until justice is done,” he said.

At the moment, over 160,000 American lives have been lost to coronavirus, according to Worldometer data.

But, China had already denied the allegation, telling that the US should stop sponsoring conspiracy theories against Beijing.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) had also warned that no nation should be stigmatised over Covid-19 origin.

Trump had also de-registered the US from the WHO on that grounds.

Pompeo added that the American economy was no longer being exploited by China and that the country’s economy was doing well.

“He has ended the ridiculous trade unfair trade arrangement with China that punched a hole in our economy; those jobs are coming back home,” he said.

But, the Democrats took a swipe at the Trump administration, claiming that his leadership incompetence led to the death of thousands of America, due to Covid-19.

It also countered the administration’s remarks about the economy doing well, adding that many had lost their jobs.

“With every job report released, Trump has tried to deceive the American public about the state of our economy.

“He’s even called these numbers joyous.

“Over 177,000 Americans are dead and 58 per cent of jobs lost during COVID have not returned; Trump lies, but the numbers don’t,” Democrats tweeted on Wednesday.
