Group Commends Gov Obiano For Anambra’s Low Unemployment Rate

The policies of Governor Willie Obiano has been commended as part of the reasons Anambra was rated as the state with the lowest unemployment rate in Nigeria. The commendation was made by a group, Anambra State Civil Society Network (ACSONET), an umbrella body of non-state actors and stakeholders in the state.

THE WHISTLER recalls that a 2020 survey, which was published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), indicated that only 13.1 per cent of about three million residents of the state were unemployed, thus making the state the lowest with unemployed people in the country.

ACSONET, in a statement signed by its chairman, Prince Chris Azor, and made available to our correspondent in Awka, further praised the people of the state for their industry and innovations, adding that the Governor Obiano-led administration’s support for enterprises contributed a lot towards the feat.

According to the statement, “Anambra State, under Governor Obiano, is the first state in the entire Southern Nigeria to sign up to Open Government Partnership (OGP), a feat that has earned the governor the sobriquet ‘Open Governor of Nigeria’ (OGN). Most recently, a new procurement law was enacted, with the inauguration of a state public procurement council and bureau.

“The state was recently ranked topnotch in public participation in budgeting and public finance management. Anambra students, in the past years, have cleared most trophies in international, competitions, to global delight and admiration. There is an ongoing reform of all people-friendly laws for transparency, accountability and social justice.”

The group called on the governor to sustain the tempo to make the state the industrial hub of the country.
