Video Shoot Controversy: Lai Mohammed Unfit, Should Be Sacked – Entertainers

The controversy over the purported ban of music and video production abroad, took another turn on Friday as the Coalition of Nigeria Entertainers, called for the sack of Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed.

The group in a statement by its President, Kenule Nwiya, gave the minister 7-days to retract his comments or face a “nationwide protest”.

Nwiya explained that a person of Mr Mohammed’s caliber to make such utterances that causes crisis in the country does not deserve to be a minister.

The entertainers were reacting to a statement credited to Mr Mohammed saying the Federal Government has taken steps to amend the Nigeria Broadcasting Code to discourage the production of Nigerian movies and music outside the country.

Nwiya said: “We the Coalition of Nigeria entertainers wish to inform the Acting President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo that he should sack Lai Mohammed with immediate effect if the statement against Nigeria Entertainers is not withdrawn in less than 7days.

“We shall lead a nationwide protest to caution the government on the unhealthy decision which will undermine the international influence of Nigeria Music & Movie Content if the statement is not withdrawn.

“We also want the misfit Minister of Information to stop saying things that will cause crisis in our beloved country.”

Meanwhile, Mr Mohammed on Thursday said that the Federal Government is working on plans to bar Nigerian companies from sponsoring foreign brands.

The minister said the government will not watch Nigerian company’s sponsor other foreign brands at the expense of indigenous brands in the country.
