‘You Betrayed Us 20 Years Ago’ — P-Square’s Rudeboy Slams Eedris Abdulkareem Over Comments On Burna Boy

Afrobeats star, Paul ‘Rudeboy’ Okoye of P-Square, has accused veteran singer Eedris Abdulkareem of betraying Nigerian artistes by accepting a low payment to perform at a 2004 show featuring 50 Cent.

Rudeboy’s comment came amid an ongoing feud between Abdulkareem and Grammy Award-winner Burna Boy.

Abdul Kareem had faulted Burna Boy’s past statements claiming no one paved the way for him to gain global popularity, prompting a rebuke from Burna Boy on social media.

“You hear someone like Burna Boy say no one helped him in Nigeria. That’s stupid talk,” Abdulkareem had said in a viral clip from a podcast.

In response, Rudeboy slammed Abdulkareem for being “greedy” and accepting a small payment to perform at the 2004 show hosted by Nigerian Breweries with 50 Cent.

According to Rudeboy, Nigerian artists at the time collectively agreed to ask for higher payment and better treatment but Abdulkareem went behind their backs to collect a meager amount for the show.

“You expect VIP treatment on top peanut payment?” Rudeboy wrote. “You keep insulting any artist at every opportunity, if it is not Tuface, it is Psquare, Timaya, Dbanj, now na Burna… you go explain taya!!,” Rudeboy wrote in an Instagram story on Sunday.

The 2004 show in question featured 50 Cent performing in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Benin alongside top Nigerian acts like Daddy Showkey and Tony Tetuila.

Abdulkareem made headlines for a scuffle with 50 Cent’s entourage after demanding to sit in 50 Cent’s first-class seat on the chartered flight for the show.

The rift between Abdulkareem and Burna Boy heightened after the latter mocked Abdulkareem over his recent health challenge that prompted him to publicly seek help to undergo a kidney transplant.

Burna Boy had said he did not blame Abdulkareem for his comment but those who donated money to settle his hospital bills when he underwent the kidney transplant in 2022.
