Zimbabwe: Wife Of Vice President Accused Of Plot To Kill Husband

Mary Mubaiwa, wife of Zimbabwe’s Vice president, Constantino Chiwenga is facing charges of attempted murder in line with section 189 of the nation’s criminal law act.

Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation reports that the court has placed her on remand until the 30th of December, 2019.

But the Harare regional court said she could apply for bail at the High Court which has jurisdiction over such third schedule offences.

The complainant before the court is the vice president of Zimbabwe, Retired General, Constantino Chiwenga.

The state is represented by Michael Reza and Jonathan Murombedzi while Marry Chiwenga is represented by Taona Nyamakura and Mzokuthula Mbuyisa from Mtetwa and Nyambirai law firm.

According to ZBC News online, court documents showed that the accused had asked for privacy between her and her husband, in a hospital and had allegedly removed the intravenous set as well as a central venous catheter meant to sustain his life, which made him to start bleeding.

Intravenous1 (IV) giving sets are regularly used to provide fluid therapy, to administer medicines, and blood products (e.g., blood & platelets). This practice is called infusion therapy.

Court documents also alleged that the accused forced the complainant out of the bed, before being intercepted by the security personnel at the exit door who then called in the hospital staff to reconnect the life-giving set.

She was initially charged with money laundering, fraud and violating exchange control regulations.

She is an ex-model who was once married to a footballer who played for Caps United Football Club.

She served as the patron and chairperson of the Miss Zimbabwe Trust

In 2011, Marry was customarily married to the vice president.
