2018 W/Cup Last Opportunity For Current Argentina Team – Messi

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has said he and his Argentina teammates will “have to disappear” if they fail to take their last chance of winning the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Messi along with his Argentine teammates have failed to end La Albiceleste’s drought, losing in two successive Copa America finals – in 2015 and 2016, and also finishing runners to Germany at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“I think if we do badly in this World Cup, we all have to disappear from the National Team. It’s going to be complicated for everyone.” Messi told TyC Sports, on Wednesday.

“Because we have been in the national team for many year, we have played several Copa America, previous World Cup.

People get tired and want to see new faces and new things in the National Team. ”

Having been drawn with Nigeria, Iceland and Croatia in Group D in next year’s tournament, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner expressed worries about the threat posed by the Super Eagles to his country’s chances of reaching the second round.

“It can happen like that, Nigeria is like that, it can be one or the other. You can expect anything from the African selections.

“If they have the day, they make 4 goals, and if not, you can enter everywhere and they leave you unthinkable situations in a match.

“It has very good players, very fast, that if you leave spaces they take advantage of it, but they also let you play and they leave you spaces. It messes up a lot, we hope we find them from the first time.”

The 30-year-old Barcelona number ten was not in action when the La Albiceleste and the Super Eagles played a Friendly game in November. The South Americans lost 4-2 despite leading by 2-0.
