“This initiative aligns with the high value the state government places on education. It will bring great joy to our people, parents, and of course, our students,” the Commissioner stated.

The government has also approved the renovation of 170 primary schools and 51 secondary schools across Abia State. Additionally, six model schools are being constructed across the state’s three Senatorial zones.

“The government has also approved the renovation and retrofitting of 170 primary schools and 10 primary schools per LGA and this is in addition to the six models schools that have been approved before now, undergoing construction.

“Also 51 secondary schools have been approved for renovation with three per LGA across the state and the schools”, he said.

The Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eme Uche, emphasized that the school renovations were being carried out in stages and will include amenities like security posts and teachers’ quarters.

Prince Kanu noted that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) delisted several private schools in the state due to examination malpractices.

According to him, the Abia government fully supports the action to ensure integrity in academic assessments and cleanse the education sector.

“The delisting of the schools aligns with the new Abia’s ethos. We believe this strong action by WAEC will encourage people to do the right thing,” said the Commissioner.
