Abia Varsity Lecturers Suspends Seven-Day Old Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Abia State University chapter has called off its seven-day old strike.
The Union called off the strike after an emergency congress held at the university’s main campus in Uturu.

It resolved to suspend the strike in honour of the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Oti, who has shown commitment to meeting the demands of the union which centered on 11 months arrears of salary among other issues.
The Union’s branch Chairperson, Dr Chidi Mbah, confirmed this and expressed confidence that the governor, who is the visitor, will definitely meet the demands of the Union as soon as possible.
Recall that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Abia State University Branch (ASUU-ABSU) had on the 9th of January 2024 embarked on total and indefinite strike due to the non-payment of their December 2023 salary and 11 months arrears.
The union members, however, passed a vote of confidence in the executive of the union led by Dr Chidi Mbah as well as the governor, who has shown so much commitment to labour related matters in the state.
