Akpabio Steps Down As Senate Minority Leader

Dr Godswill Akpabio, the lawmaker representing Akwa Ibom North West, has resigned his position as the Minority Leader of the Nigerian Senate.

Akpabio’s resignation comes amidst speculations of his defection from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Senate Minority Leader’s resignation was contained in a letter dated August 4, 2018, and addressed to Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, the Deputy Senate Minority Leader.

The former Akwa Ibom state governor copied amongst others, the Senate President, the Deputy Senate President, the Senate Leader, the Minority Whip, the Deputy Minority Whip, the Clerk of the Senate, the Clerk of the National Assembly, and the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the resignation letter.
