Anambra: Drunken Driver Faces Prosecution As One Dies In Onitsha Road Accident

The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi, weekend, vowed to prosecute the driver of the tipper that crashed under Kwata bridge along Awka-Enugu expressway. The driver was alleged to be drunk.

The accident, which involved a yellow Mercedes Benz 911 tipper with registration number AKA 993 XA, happened at about 1230hrs on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver, who was allegedly drunk, lost control of the tipper as a result of excessive speeding, and crashed into the bridge barricade. Two male adults were involved, with the driver sustaining injuries.

THE WHISTLER learnt that the driver was rushed to Amaku Teaching Hospital, Awka.

In another development, one male adult was killed in a fatal road accident which occurred after FRSC office at Ihiala along Ihiala-Onitsha road at about 1500hrs on Sunday. The crash involved a Ford bus belonging to Catholic Watchman with registration number RLU 440 KM and a Twinco motorcycle with registration number URU 006 VC.

According to the sector education officer of the FRSC, Anambra State, RC Kamal Musa, the driver was reported to have lost control of the vehicle due to over-speeding. Kamal said, “Twelve persons, six males and six females, were involved. One male adult and one female adult sustained varying degrees of injury, and were rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala, while the deceased was deposited at Obijason Mortuary after being confirmed dead.”
