Anambra Guber: Supreme Court Dismisses Suit Challenging Soludo’s Candidacy, APGA Natl Chairmanship

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed an application instituted against the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Oye.

Under Oye’s leadership, the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Charles Soludo is the party’s candidate for the November 6 Governorship election in Anambra State.

The appeal was filed by Chief Jude Okeke against APGA, Chief Victor Oye, Alhaji Rabiu Garba Aliyu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.

Recall that the Court of Appeal division in Kano had affirmed the Chairmanship and Governorship of Oye and Soludo.

But Okeke’s lawyer told the apex court that he disagreed with the court’s decision.

“The Courts below had jurisdiction to have determined the underlying suit and appeal as it was properly constituted and therefore the issue of non-disclosure or judicial abuse do not arise,” Okeke stated in his brief of argument.

But a five man panel of the apex court, led by Justice Peter Odili, struck out the appeal for lacking in merit.

The panel also awarded 1 million naira cost in favor of the Respondents.
