APC Will Need More Effort To Win Elections In Osun – Ex-Party Chair

The immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Adelowo Adebiyi, has said the ruling party is becoming very weak in the state.

The weakness of the party, Adeniyi said, was due to the “weak and overwhelmed leadership” of the party in the state.

Because of this, Adebiyi, who is the chairman of a group within the party known as “The Osun Progressives” said the party might need more than ordinary efforts to win future elections in the state.

The Osun Progressives consist of ex-commissioners and aides who served under Rauf Aregbesola.

Adebiyi spoke at a press briefing addressed by members of the group in Osogbo on Tuesday.

Osun State governorship poll is due to hold in 2022 but the TOP chairman, who was suspended for alleged anti-party activities just last week, said those who publicly opposed the group had started coming secretly to identify with it.

He said, “The reality of the APC is not heart-warming as the structure is weak and the leadership seems overwhelmed with its management. There are fewer activities around the party,

” APC members are frustrated. The leadership of the party is becoming nonchalant towards the affairs of the party.

“Without internal cohesion and commitment to party ideals, the APC may need more than ordinary efforts to win elections in the state.

“These reasons made us to come together to consolidate. There is a need to ensure greater democratic participation of members to sustain the commitment of people towards our party.”

However, the Commissioner for Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr Taiwo Akeju when contacted for his reaction to Adebiyi’s claims said all aides of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola , were with him.

Akeju said, “None would identify with the splinter group called TOP. Their actions are a mere distraction to the governor. The party and the government remain focused on the affairs of the state.

“We are winning future elections. I can assure you, ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola will lead the campaign of Oyetola for second term. We will reach out to the aggrieved members.”
