The Senate has asked the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali, to appear “in plenary in uniform”.

The senate, during Thursday plenary, ordered the Customs DG to appear before it on Wednesday “unfailingly.”

Recall that the Senate committee on customs and excise duties on Thursday, February 2, challenged Ali on why he doesn’t wear the uniform of the service to show his designation.

Ali in his response explained that he does not wear the uniform because he is a retired army officer, adding that it was against military tradition for him to wear the uniform of another organisation.

The senators, venting their anger during plenary, condemned the agency over its refusal to suspend action on the proposed clamp down on vehicles without duty payment, as ordered by the legislature.

The lawmakers called for Ali’s removal if he failed to comply with the Senate directives.
