The Nigerian Army has opened applications for its Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29/2026, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for commissioning as officers in selected professional corps of the force.

The announcement makes the application open to civilians as well as serving military personnel who meet the stipulated professional and academic requirements.

The programme targets individuals trained in specialised fields considered essential to military operations, training, engineering support, healthcare delivery and communication services within the Army.

According to the guidelines released by the Army, applicants may seek commission into professional corps including the “Nigerian Army Engineers, Nigerian Army Signals, Nigerian Army Medical Corps, Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and the Nigerian Army Education Corps”.

These units provide technical, medical, instructional and operational support across formations and commands nationwide.

The Army stated that the application process will run strictly online and at no cost to applicants.

It fixed the opening date for submissions as 7 January 2026 and set the closing date for 4 February 2026.

The Army advised prospective applicants to submit early to reduce the risk of technical difficulties as the deadline approaches.

The DSSC allows professionals to enter military service as commissioned officers and deploy their expertise in support of national security and defence operations.

The Army cautioned the public against fraudulent individuals or groups that may demand money under the guise of facilitating recruitment.

It stressed that the application process remains free and that no external influence can determine selection outcomes.
