Speaking to journalist on Friday after his release, Agummadu refuted reports alleging that he was a financier of cult activities in Awka and its environs.

While noting that the allegation was false and unfounded, aimed at tarnishing his reputation, the market leader called on the police to investigate the matter with a view to ascertaining the correct situation.

He said he was neither a cultist nor a sponsor of cult killings or any related crimes in the state.

He said, “I’m not a cultist and I don’t sponsor cult killings or any related crimes.

“The allegation is the handiwork of mischief makers aimed at tarnishing my image.

“As a philanthropist, I have changed the living condition of so many Awka indigenes and contributed immensely to the development of the town”.

He pledged to work with the state government in the provision of security in the area.

Recall that the State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed in a press statement on Wednesday had said that Agummadu and three others were arrested for alleged cult killings in the area.

Mohammed said the Commissioner of Police in the state led the operation for Agummadu’s arrest.
