Bala Mohammed Clears Air ‘No Conflict Between Bauchi, Gombe Over Oil’

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Sunday cleared the air on the controversy surrounding oil discovery in the border communities of his state and Gombe.

Mohammed said there is no conflict between the two states, noting that stories making the round of tension as a result of the oil wells ownership was not true.

He stated this at a function organised by Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi to celebrate the 2019 Eid-el-Maulud in Bauchi.

THE WHISTLER recalls that some elders in Gombe had some time ago called on President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in a lingering tension between the two states over ownership of oil wells.

He said: “As far as we are concerned, there is no conflict or tension between Bauchi and Gombe States over oil discovery in border communities of the two states.

“The two states remain the same entity, Gombe was carved out of Bauchi, we are brothers and sisters if the oil is discovered in any of the border communities we are all the same.”

According to the governor, those insinuating the conflicts were enemies of progress.

While appealing to faithfuls at the Maulud to observe traffic rules, in order to avoid accidents during the event, he called for mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

He maintained that the primary objective of any responsible government is to ensure the security of the lives and property of its citizens.

Recall that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on October 11, said it had discovered hydrocarbon deposits in the Kolmani River II Well, on the Upper Benue Trough, Gongola Basin, in the North-Eastern part of the country.

The Kolmani River II Well is located on the Gongola basin of Benue Trough in Bauchi state.
