Bandits Free 3 Students Of Kaduna Seminary

Barely 48 hours after three students of a Catholic-run seminary in Kaduna State were kidnapped, authorities of the school have confirmed their release.

They were abducted when suspected bandits invaded Christ the King Major Seminary in the Jemaa Local Government Area of Kaduna on October 11.

No fewer than three persons were reportedly injured and admitted at an undisclosed hospital after the abduction.

The chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Reverend Father Emmanuel Okolo, confirmed the victims’ release on Wednesday.

Recall that the abduction occurred despite strict measures adopted by the state government to stop frequent kidnappings and violent attacks in the state.

The government had restricted movement at certain hours of the day, banned motorcycles in some areas of the state and banned selling of fuel in jerricans.

Telecommunications services were also shut down, among other restrictions, to deter criminal activities in the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, while announcing the measures late September, said, “These difficult times demand that difficult decisions be made. The measures have been adopted purely in the interest of our collective safety and security and to aid our brave forces in their fight against these mindless criminals”.
