‘Big Win’- Arteta Reacts As Arsenal Daze Liverpool 3-1 To Boost Premier League Title Hopes

Arsenal recorded a 3-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium to boost their Premier League title hopes.

The Gunners went into the game knowing that only victory could keep them in the title race against the in-form Liverpool, and they ended the game just two points behind the Reds.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring for the hosts in the 14th minute after Alisson saved from Kai Havertz.

Liverpool responded with a goal of their own in a fortuitous manner when Gabriel diverted the ball into his own net with his hand following a misunderstanding between Raya and Saliba.

The Gunners took the lead again in the 67th minute when Alisson and Van Dijk conspired to allow Martinelli an easy opportunity to score.

Ibrahima Konate was sent off for Liverpool for a foul on Kai Havertz after receiving a yellow card earlier.

Alisson fumbled in Trossard’s late effort into the net in the 92nd minute to make it 3-1 and set Arsenal on their way to a deserved victory.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta described the victory as a huge win.

Arteta said: “It gives us momentum and the way we have done it we are back on it – really excited.

“They were attacking open spaces, and that is a bad thing to concede against them. They changed their shape, and we had to bring a player inside.

“Basically the message was there were going to be difficult moments, and we had to navigate through them.

“We were ruthless when we had a chance, and it feels like a big win.”

Arteta added: “At the moment they are probably the best team in Europe and the levels they have, they are an incredible team.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool coach, Jürgen Klopp admitted that Arsenal deserved the maximum points and described Arsenal’s goal as strange.

“In general, we can admit that Arsenal deserves the three points.

“The circumstances were a bit strange. The goal for us was similar to the cup game. In the cup game, we had even bigger chances.

“We scored the goal at half-time and having nil shots on target, but a goal is a bit stranger. We had to adapt in a lot of moments today.

“We found our way into the game. We had crosses and situations where it was close and then the second half. But if you cannot keep it open, then Arsenal might become a little nervous.

“The red card did not help, and we had to change what we tried a lot.”

Liverpool still retain the first position with two points clear of Arsenal.

Up next for Liverpool is a home clash against Burnley on Saturday, while Arsenal travels to West Ham on Sunday.
