UPDATED: APC Floors NNPP As Tribunal Sacks Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf
The Kano State governorship election tribunal has declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the winner of the 2023 governorship election.
In the judgment delivered via zoom by the chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was ordered to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Yusuf and another should be issued to Gawuna.

The tribunal deducted 165,663 votes from the total votes the INEC had said Yusuf secured during the March election noting that the ballot papers were not stamped or signed.
The INEC had declared Yusuf the winner of the election with 1,019,602 votes while it announced that the APC polled 890,705.
The court held that having deducted 165,663 votes from the NNPP candidate’s votes, Yusuf was left with 853,939 votes which were less than the total votes entered in the APC candidate’s favour.
The court had earlier held that Yusuf’s emergence as the candidate of the NNPP was an internal affair of the party and was not a ground for disqualification.
