BREAKING: #EndSARS Protest Degenerates In Osogbo, Fire Fighters Attacked

Youths protesting and seeking an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad vented their anger on some fire fighters in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Tuesday.

The protesters had gathered at the Nelson Mandela Park from where they marched to the ever-busy Olaiya Junction and barricaded the road which leads to all the major roads in the state capital.

The irate protesters made bonfires on the road thereby causing gridlock and forcing many motorists to make a detour to avoid being stuck in the traffic.

However, a vehicle carrying fire fighters’ from the Fire Service, which appeared to be going on an assignment, was attacked by the protesters at the junction.

Our correspondent observed that the angry youths suddenly began to pelt the vehicle with stones.

As the fire fighters’ van sped off from the danger, some of the angry protesters mounted bikes and chased the van towards Isale Osun area.

It was later gathered that they caught up with the van, attacked and injured officials of the Fire Service.

The spokesperson for the Fire Service, Adijat Bashiri, while reacting to the attack, condemned it, describing it as unprovoked and barbaric.

She said, “At about 11:30am today, 13/10/2020 four officers and utility vehicle with reg no:FFS109 were attacked by the protesters of the ENDSARS movement around traffic light, Olaiya area, osogbo

“They were chased to Okebaale police station where they took cover for safety.

“Two of our officers that fell victim and got injured and were taken to the Police Clinic, Okefia Osogbo for first aid treatment.”
