BREAKING: Tension As Police Teargas 16 Sacked Lawmakers At Plateau Assembly

Tension has gripped the Plateau State capital, Jos, as the Police tear-gassed 16 lawmakers of the state who were sacked by the court.

The lawmakers had vowed to resume sitting on Tuesday following what they called an unfair and unjust decision of the court of appeal that sacked them while the Supreme Court upheld the election of the state governor on the same premises.

They arrived on Tuesday morning with their supporters to join their colleagues when armed policemen who had taken strategic positions fired tear gas to prevent them from entering the assembly complex.

Reports of the incident said the police pushed the lawmakers back and prevented them from entering the complex while there was commotion with people running helter-skelter in a state that has been witnessing rising insecurity.

There’s no official statement from the lawmakers and the police on the development as of the time of filing this story.
