Buhari Explodes: ‘Nigerians Are Lawless’; Sowore Shouts: ‘Nigeria A Lawless State’ – Two Faces Of One Country

Law and order must have weighed heavily on the mind of President Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria celebrates her 59th Independence Day anniversary on Tuesday, as he took time to condemn alleged lawlessness of Nigerians, especially the privileged Nigerians.

Early in his 52-paragrah speech, Buhari called out Nigerians on their “lawless habits” and asked them to have a change of heart if the country must progress.

Many would say the president’s tirade against his countrymen and women may have been a response to a similar attack on the “lawlessness” of the State expressed on Monday by the detained former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore was arrested in August and has remained in detention of the Department of State Services (DSS) after he tried to stage what he called the “#RevolutionNow” protest against the Buhari administration.

The DSS charged him to court for “conspiracy to commit treason” and for “causing insult, enmity, hatred and ill-will” against the person of President Buhari.

Sowore, who was in court on Monday to answer to the charges, spoke to journalists briefly before being whisked away by operatives of the DSS.

Raising his hands and making a warning gesture with his index finger, he said “Nigeria is a lawless country”.

And as the security personnel whisked him away from the media, he responded to his admirers “#RevolutionNow”.

Sowore’s travails and Buhari’s Independence Day speech demonstrates perhaps the paradox of a double-faced country.
