Buhari, Others Mourn Mugabe

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the people of Zimbabwe over the death of Robert Mugabe, the immediate past President.

Mugabe, the longest-serving president of Zimbabwe died at the age of 95.

A statement signed by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said, “On behalf of the Federal Government, President Muhammadu Buhari sends condolences to the government and people of Zimbabwe over the passing of the founding father and former President, Robert Mugabe, 95.

“The President commiserates with family members, friends and political associates of the political activist who fought for the independence of the country from colonial rule, and lived most of his life in public service.

“President Buhari believes Mugabe’s sacrifices, especially in struggling for the political and economic emancipation of his people, will always be remembered by posterity.

“He prays that the Almighty God will grant the soul of the former president rest and comfort his loved ones.”

Former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode in a statement described Mugabe as a “great son of Africa”.

“He was courageous and defiant. His struggle to liberate Zimbabwe from white minority rule was outstanding. He led his army from the jungle, won the hearts of his people, swept away the tyrant and took the throne. May the soul of Robert Mugabe RIP,” he wrote on twitter.

Similarly, aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan said Mugabe’s regime brought about literacy in the whole country.

He said, “You will hear a lot about Robert Mugabe. But one thing you will probably not hear about him is that he gave Zimbabwe one of the HIGHEST LITERACY RATES on EARTH. You heard me right. On Earth! I have been to Zimbabwe and there is hardly any ILLITERACY there.”
