Covid-19: After Trump’s Letter, WHO Calls For Independent Investigation of Global Response
The World Health Organization ( WHO) has called for an independent investigation into global response to the Coronavirus pandemic, including into it’s own role.
This is coming after the United States president, Donald Trump, in a letter(dated May18), gave WHO a 30-day ultimatum to reform its handling of the covid-19 pandemic or the U.S would reconsider its membership of the organization.

“It also calls for an independent and comprehensive evaluation of the global response, including, but not limited to, WHO’s performance,” WHO stated in a Covid-19 global response report published on its website.
WHO also stated that the Global Covid-19 Response, includes the effort to control the pandemic as well as the equitable access and fair distribution of covid-19 health products and technologies.
Furthermore, WHO said that about One hundred and thirty(130) countries adopted the global covid-19 response.
This is as 5,004,329 people across 213 countries and territories were confirmed positive ; out of which 325,255 patients have died(according to latest Worldometer data).

The adoption was done through a consensus during the 73rd World Health Assembly, which was convened virtually.
In a tweet on Wednesday, WHO’s Director General, Tedros Adhanom, said that he was hopeful that by 2021, the world would be normal again.
However, he said that solidarity and courage was needed to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.
“Let hope be the antidote to fear; let solidarity be the antidote to division.
“Let our shared humanity be the antidote to our shared threat.
Now, more than ever,” he tweeted.
