Covid-19: DisCos To Give Nigerians 2-month Free Electricity

The 11 Electricity Distribution Companies,(DISCos), under the aegis of the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), have said they will give consumers in  their networks free electricity in the next two months.


The House of Representatives had proposed  a bill that would allow Nigerians to enjoy electricity supply without charges as part of  the COVID-19 palliatives.

The Executive Director of ANED, Sunday Oduntan,  in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday night stated that the implementation plan for the free electricity supply would be unfolded soon..

According to him,  the move is in line  with the federal government’s effort to reduce the stress of Nigerians as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

He added, “We are completely aligned with the plans to ensure palliative measures, including free electricity supply to all Nigerians for two months, to make life easier, during the lockdown period.

“We recognise the challenging effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) on the economic and daily lives of our customers.

“In fulfilment of our commitments to the nation, we hereby align ourselves with the efforts of the National Assembly and the Federal Executive Council to mitigate the hardships that are currently faced by our customers and other citizens all over the country.”
