COVID-19: Gov Umahi Orders House-To-House Testing

Ebonyi State governor, David Nweze Umahi Friday shut down all private and public primary, secondary and tertiary schools in the state, to curtail the spread of the coronavirus. The directive also shuts down all nightclub activities in the state.

According to a release from the Government House, Abakiliki, signed by Ugbala Kenneth Igwe, secretary to the state government, the state ministry of health and the state committee on anti-coronavirus were also directed to deploy all health officers to all markets, rice mills, quarry, banks and other public event management centres to carry out test for the virus.

The release states that, “The nature of every gathering in our religious worship centres will be based on advice and due consultations with the CAN leadership and other religious leaders in a meeting to be held in few days with the state government.

“ All markets and religious centres must deploy hand sanitizers and temperature checks at their entries and exit places. The state shall also start on Monday the 23rd of March to do stop-and-test to all people entering Ebonyi State.”  

The governor also directed health workers in the state to immediately commence house-to-house temperature test using 150 infrared- thermometer devices. The state government had also built test and quarantine centres at Unity Square and the border between Enugu and Ebonyi, and promises more test centres at all the exit and entery points of Ebonyi State.

While ordering security agencies to ensure compliance with the directives, the release also advised against hand shaking, hogging, and eating of animals identified as means of contracting the virus.
