Covid-19: Gov Umahi Restricts Religious Worships To 2 Hours

With the return of the coronavirus pandemic, the Ebonyi State government, weekend, in Abakaliki, announced the restriction of the activities of all religious worship centres to only two hours, as well as banned all large gatherings in the state. Gov Dave Umahi said the measure was to curtail the spread of the killer virus.

He further directed the state deputy governor, Mr Kelechi Igwe, and the state COVID-19 team to immediately commence public enlightenment campaign at every nook and cranny of the state to make the public abreast of the re-emerging infection.

According to him, “We must go back to observe all the protocols of COVID-19 enunciated by the presidential taskforce. I have directed that church services should not last more than two hours. I have also directed that we step up our testing before the end of January.

“We must accomplish the target of the presidential taskforce by testing at least 450 persons per local government. I have suspended large gatherings of people in Ebonyi State. We have returned to the wearing of facemasks in all public places and in our homes. During this Christmas, I appeal that we curtail our movements. The initial night of praise will no longer hold in the state; the usual end-of-year parties will not hold.”

In another development, Gov Umahi, Friday, handed over a-300 bed capacity isolation centre built by his administration to Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital. He said the gesture was a part of his administration’s efforts to combat the pandemic.
