COVID-19: South Africa Cases Jump From 402 To 554 In 24Hrs

South Africa has seen a sudden rise in the country’s confirmed cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) from 402 on Monday to 554 on Tuesday.

The country’s Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, on Tuesday, said the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases had increased by 152.

Mkhize revealed the latest figure at a press briefing on Tuesday.

He said majority of those infected are in a ‘good condition’, adding that most of them did not show symptoms of the virus.

Meanwhile, despite the somewhat huge number of confirmed cases, the country has not recorded any death from the virus.

Mkhize, however, said South Africa expects to see a further rise in confirmed COVID-19 cases in the coming weeks.

“We must not be shocked when we the number (of cases) increase, but these measures – if we all work together – will turn the curve around. It won’t happen tomorrow, it won’t happen next week, and if there is any change it will will probably be seen in a couple of weeks,” he said.

President Cyril Ramaphosa had announced drastic new measures to curb the spread of the virus, including a three-week lock-down period in the country.
