Covid-19:Ogun Resident Doctors Join Strike

Resident Doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Ogun State have joined doctors in Lagos in the ongoing industrial action.

This was disclosed in a in a statement on Wednesday signed by its president Popoola Mutiu and the secretary, Osundara Tope.

Recall that doctors under the aegis of the Medical Guild in Lagos State began a three days warning strike from Monday, over issues that affect their safety and welfare.

Also, health workers in Akwa ibom underJoint Health Workers Union (JOHESU)embarked on strike demanding that the state government pay them 50% of their basic salaries and other entitlement as part of hazard allowance.

ARD, which comprises Resident Doctors, Medical Officers and House Officers under the national body of NARD, began an indefinite strike since July 1, but exempted its members at the isolation centres from the strike.

However, on Wednesday the association said it changed its decision and has directed members to leave the isolation centres following an alleged maltreatment by the government.

Following the directive, doctors reportedly left the isolation centre in Sagamu.

“Since the government has chosen to simply rub the issues without any form of real commitment, our members working at the COVID – 19 Isolation Centre will henceforth join the Industrial action.

“We expect the government not to dethrone reasoning or shirk from responsibility expected of a considerate, sincere and truthful government. We call on Ogun State government not to leave us up a creek without a paddle.

“Our service to the people should not be abridged by the ineptitude of the government. We work for the common good and sound health of the people of Ogun State.”
