DSS Did Not Arrest Enugu LGA Chairman – Aide

A member of the media team of the Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, Mr Ejike Okpe, has debunked reports that the council boss, Mr Jude Asogwa, was arrested by the operatives of the State Security Services.

Mr Okpe told THE WHISTLER on Tuesday that the council chairman “is right now flagging off the construction of the Corps Members’ Lodge at Nsukka.”

According to Okpe, “It’s a very big lie. Mayor Asogwa is at the moment flagging off the construction of the first-ever Nsukka LGA Corpers’ Lodge.”

There were earlier reports that the council chairman was allegedly arrested by the DSS following the incident that occurred at Opi, Nsukka LGA, on August 9, 2025, when some alleged thugs invaded a rally organised by the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The event was meant to receive some persons decamping to the APC by the Minister of Innovations, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji. Some of the thugs were reportedly arrested.

A post by a popular social media influencer, Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, had stated that “Nsukka local government chairman Engr Jude Asogwa has been allegedly arrested this morning by men of #DSS and whisked off. His arrest is linked to the attack on APC supporters during the Nsukka Mega Defection Rally at Opi Nsukka on the 9th of August. Already, Emma Nwagwu was arrested on Sunday by FCID, Abuja, and he has mentioned a lot of names that carried out the attack with him. Nine others are to be arrested in Nsukka in connection with the attack on APC supporters.”

Our correspondent reports that the attack on APC supporters at Opi led to the destruction of structures already set up for the event. The supporters were forced to relocate to the APC office along Enugu Road by Ugwunkwo. They however, later returned to Opi when the minister arrived with his retinue of security operatives.
