One of the organizers, KO Baba Jornsen, told THE WHISTLER that the procession is being held in honour of victims of Police brutality in Rivers State, especially those who have lost their lives.

According to Jorsen, who spoke in a telephone conversation, said: “We are reaching out to the families of the Five victims of the Ikokwu Spare Parts traders who suffered the brutality of the SARS that led to the death of one of them on their way back from a sit-out here in Port Harcourt.

“Also the late Sleek who was shot by SARS over his refusal to hand over his telephone. We believe after the procession today, we’ll meet with their families and see how we can lend our support.
At the moment, we are focusing on the six families, the Ikokwu Five and late Sleek’s family. More list will be out after strict scrutiny and verifications,” he said.

He also said prayers would be offered for the victims and their families and some persons would get the opportunity to make speeches.
