Fani-Kayode: Akwa Ibom NUJ Asks Members To Boycott Ex-Minister’s Press Conference

Journalists in Akwa Ibom State have been mandated to boycott a planned press conference by former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode.

The call was made by the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in a statement on Friday.

The NUJ asked its members not to attend any activity organised by Fani-Kayode in the state.

The former minister had on Thursday, announced his arrival in Uyo, the state capital, via his twitter handle.

The call by the union came days after Fani-Kayode insulted a journalist for asking him what he described as a “stupid question” at a press conference.

He rained abuses on the journalist at the conference, held after his tour of Cross River state.

The ex-minister, who began a tour of some states, especially those controlled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)in July, visited Cross River last week.

At a press conference in Calabar, the state capital, a journalist with Daily Trust, Eyo Charles, had asked a question about who was bankrolling Fani-Kayode’s tour.

The former minister felt offended by the question and went ahead to insult the journalist, referring to him as “very stupid”.

He had said, “I could see from your face before you got here, how stupid you are. Don’t ever talk to me like that. Who do you think you’re talking to? Bankroll who? You think I am one of those ones you… from who, when, how? You have a small mind, a very small mind. Don’t judge me by your own standards.”

Following a public bashing, the ex-minister tendered what he called an apology to the journalist the next day by saying that he had withdrawn the word ‘stupid’ from his outbursts.
