FG Secures $17m World Bank Loan To Build 20,000 Classroom, Employ 950,000 Teachers

The Federal Government has secured $17 million loan from World Bank to support adolescent education across the country.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, disclosed this during the just concluded Nigerian Economic Summit (NES).

Mamman explained that the money would be used to build 20,000 classrooms across the country and employ over 950,000 teachers across the country.

He also explained that the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) would be massively implemented in the project.

Recall that the Executive Secretary, UBEC, Dr. Hamid Boboyi disclosed recently that the country needed an additional 20,000 schools and 907,769 classrooms to absorb the growing number of out-of-school children.

Boboyi who was speaking recently during a briefing session with the Education Minister, also identified infrastructure gaps and inadequate manpower as some of the challenges facing the commission in its efforts towards ensuring equitable access to quality basic education.
