Gov Makinde Joins NLC Protest In Ibadan, Promises To Deliver Unions’ Letter To Tinubu

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday joined the ongoing Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) protest in Ibadan, the capital of the state.

Makinde joined the protest at Yemetu roundabout in Ibadan after the workers who had converged at their secretariat marched through Agodi, Gate and NTA areas to protest against hardship and high cost of living in the country.

The protesters were carrying placards and chanting anti-government songs.
Shortly after the State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Kayode Martins, addressed the protesters, the Oyo Governor joined them in solidarity at Yemetu area of Ibadan.
Addressing the protesters, he said, “This is a trying period for our country. It should not be a time of divisive activities. It is a time to come together and confront the challenges we have when we are going through moments like this. I understand how people are feeling, we saw it in 1989 during the structural adjustment programme.

“I am appealing to the union leader to remain calm, the letter they gave me, I will personally deliver it to the president. I know that there is hunger and anger in the land but the solution is to come together to solve the challenges.”

Earlier, NLC chair, Martins, said the cost of living was no longer bearable, especially for the common man.
