Unknown gunmen on Thursday night kidnapped two people and shot another along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway.

The incident occurred along the Bwari-Jere highway, an alternative route which connects the Federal Capital Territory to Kaduna State.

The Whistler learned that the shot victim, Lawal Adamu is an aide to Senator Shehu Sani, a lawmaker representing Kaduna central.

Adamu, who is currently receiving medical attention at the Abuja National Hospital, revealed that the gunmen were Fulani herdsmen.

He said he was on his way back from Abuja alongside his brother when they ran into the armed persons around the Bwari area council in the FCT.

According to him, the gunmen, who were up to six in number opened fire on them, leading to two gunshot wounds.

“They are Fulani; they were speaking the Fulani language fluently. I am very sure of what I’m saying,” he said.

Mr. Adamu said when the robbers searched the vehicle and were not satisfied with what they got, they kidnapped his brother and demanded N10 million for his release.

Recall that the Federal Government promised to deploy large number of security personnel along the Kaduna-Abuja highway following the diversion of flights from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to the Kaduna International Airport.

The commencement of international flight operations at the Kaduna airport raised concerns from different quarters as the route is notorious for armed robbery attacks and criminal activities.
