Hit-and-Run 911 Mercedes Benz Truck Kills Teenage Girl In Anambra

A hit-and-run 911 Mercedes Benz truck driver on Friday knocked down and killed a teenage girl who was crossing the expressway at Building Materials junction, Nteje, along Onitsha-Awka expressway.

An eyewitness told THE WHISTLER in Awka that the incident occurred around 1442hrs, explaining that the girl did not observe the road before crossing.

It was further gathered that the victim was taken to Iyi-Enu Hospital, Ogidi, where she was confirmed dead while the corpse was deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.

The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi, while praying for God to grant the deceased family the fortitude to bear the loss, advised road-users to endeavour to use pedestrian bridges to avoid road mishap.

In another development, there was a lone road traffic crash as a result of loss of control due to fatigue involving a green/blue Mark truck laden with diesel driven by one Mr Prince, with registration number XT 540 APP, at about 1038hrs, at Immigration junction, Agu-Awka, along Awka-Enugu expressway.

According to the state’s sector public education officer of the FRSC, Kamal Musa, three male adults sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident, and were rushed in time to Fort Hospital, Agu-Awka, in Awka.

He added that the operatives of the Anambra State Fire Service used chemicals to neutralize the effects of the spillage of diesel from the truck.
