Hope For Visa Seekers As U.S Embassy Reopens Lagos, Abuja Operations

Barely 48 hours after shutting down operations indefinitely, the United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate-General in Lagos have reopened for visa applications.

The Embassy had dashed the hopes of Nigerians seeking tourist, study, business visas, and other travel document when it announced on Monday that the U.S Embassy in Abuja and Consulate-General in Lagos will be closed indefinitely due to “the current US government shutdown,” adding that “They will re-open once the US government shutdown is resolved. Sorry for any inconvenience to our valued patrons.”

But in a Facebook post on Wednesday, the Embassy said both centers have been opened for visa applications. It however said, the American centres which include the libraries and other sections will remain closed for now.

“US Embassy Abuja and Consulate General Lagos remain open for all consular business, including visa interviews. Please attend your regularly scheduled interview,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, the earlier shutdown may not be unconnected with the two-month-long fracas between the President Donald Trump-led U.S executive arm of government and the legislative arm.

The brawl is said to be over President Trump’s bid to build a wall along the Mexican border which he promised during his campaign before emerging U.S President.
