How ‘Asthmatic’ Dino Almost Died Of Suffocation After Police Tear-Gassed Him Twice

More light has been thrown into what transpired between Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, and the police that almost cost the federal lawmaker his life last week.

News emanating from Dino’s sickbed is that the Senator has asthma. The police, according to Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, gassed the embattled senator twice, causing the lawmaker to gasp for breath while being forcefully conveyed to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital last Tuesday.

Recall that Melaye, who is the chairman, Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was recently declared wanted for allegedly supplying arms to some murder suspects, who allegedly implicated him.

Melaye denied the allegations, which he describes as politically motivated.

The police had claimed that the federal lawmaker, escaped from lawful custody when ‘miscreants and hoodlums’ blocked a police vehicle conveying him to Lokoja to face trial.

According to Assistant commissioner of police, Jimoh Moshood, “Senator Dino Melaye while in lawful custody of the Nigeria Police Force and being taken for arraignment in Federal High Court, Lokoja from Abuja, escaped from lawful custody when hoodlums and miscreants in Two Toyota Hilux Vehicles blocked the Police vehicle conveying Senator Dino Melaye around Area 1 Round About, Abuja and in the process the Senator jumped out of the Police vehicle through the window and was rescued from the Policemen by hoodlums and miscreants to an unknown destination.

But in a twist, the Senator representing Bayelsa East. State, said he met with Melaye and he told him a different story altogether contrary to the police claims.

“Just met with @dino_melaye. Very sad to hear what transpired. Dino is asthmatic, yet while in transit, the police gassed him & he could barely breathe. Second time they gassed him, he had to force his way out of the vehicle. Dino literally escaped death. SAD!” Senator Murray-Bruce said in a tweet on Monday.
