The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has begun the process to review the cost of international passport in the country, the agency said Wednesday.

This was revealed by the NIS Comptroller-General, Mr. Muhammad Babandede at the flag off ceremony for the capacity building programme on Information Communication Technology (ICT) for Immigration officers in Abuja.

Babandede explained that the hike was necessitated by the high cost of producing the booklets abroad, considering the fall in value of the naira.

Acording to him, if the prices were not reviewed, its revenue to the country would be negatively affected.

The NIS boss did not reveal when the new price would be effected, he however stated that the service has written to the presidency for approval.

He said: “It is not easy for us to pay for booklets because of the cost. You will agree with me that air tickets have doubled in this country. You are aware that a lot of things have changed, but the passport fees have not changed.”
