Kidnapped ABSU Deputy VC Regains Freedom

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the Abia State University, Prof Godwin Emezue, who was abducted two weeks ago by gunmen, has regained his freedom.

Emezue was abducted by unknown gunmen at his Umuopara Community in Umuahia South local government where he was fueling his car in an undisclosed fuel station.

The kidnappers also snatched an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card from Emezue’s wife before bundling him into their waiting car and then drove away.

According to a family source, the kidnappers initially demanded N35m ransom from the academician’s family but the family pleaded for a reduction to about N25m.

THE WHISTLER reports that despite the millions of ransom that was paid for his release, Prof Emezue was brutally tortured by his abductors during his time in captivity, and has now been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for immediate medical treatment.

The management of the Abia State University, the Abia State Police Command and his family are yet to issue any official statement confirming his release, but some of his close associates in Umuahia has confirmed his release to our correspondent.
