Mainagate: Obasanbajo Warns Buhari Against Considering ‘Sacred Cows’

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against considering ‘sacred cows’ in handling the Abdulrasheed Maina scandal.

Obasanjo frowned at Maina’s secret reinstatement into the Federal Civil Service after the fugitive ex-pension boss was sacked in 2013 over a N2 billion pension fraud.

Speaking on “Corruption and the Challenges of the African Child” at the 2017 Foundation Day Public Lecture on Saturday, the former president said maina’s secret recall had dented the anti-corruption war of the current administration.

“Corruption must be punished, and must be seen to be punished,” Obasanjo said at the event which held in Ibadan.

“Any accomplice in corruption and cover-up and any failure to punish must also earn punishment.

“We cannot afford to have sacred cows in the fight against corruption. The Maina saga should never have been allowed to occur. It is not in tandem with the fight against corruption,” the former president said.
