Melaye Lectures Oshiomhole: Senate Presidency Not Hereditary Nor Kingship

Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has urged the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to not overwork himself in trying to get Dr Bukola Saraki removed as Senate President.

This, Melaye said, is because the Oshiomhole-led APC “will never” have what is required to impeach Saraki from office.

“Senate President Bukola Saraki will be there for four years,” the Senator said on Channels TV’s Politics Today, adding that “I want to assure you that they can’t and will never have the number to remove the Senate President.”

The federal lawmaker, who was among the 14 senators who recently defected from the ruling party to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warned that any “crooked” attempt to impeach the Senate President would be vehemently resisted by the opposition party.

His warning comes on the heels of an alleged directive given by Oshiomhole to the Senators of the ruling APC to impeach Saraki.

Senator Melaye said, “Unfortunately, Adams Oshiomhole as an individual has no vote either to keep Saraki in office or get him impeached.

“When he said that it’s a crown, that the crown belongs to APC; I want to educate and inform him that the Senate Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is not a title.

“It is not hereditary, you don’t beget it. it is for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It does not belong to a political party, it does not belong to a family, it is not a kingship or an emperor type of thing,” he added.
